The task of the Therapeutic Touch therapist is to assess the energy flow, identify abnormalities in it, clear, rebalance, and connect with the universal energy field to reestablish order. Three principles are essential to the process: Compassion, Intention, and Centering (an inner quieting and focusing that remains constant during the session). Delores Krieger, PhD RN, one of the founders of Therapeutic Touch, recently said, “Consequently, in using the Therapeutic Touch method, it is compassion, one of the higher human functions, that is the constant companion of the transpersonal-sensitive psychodynamic background of the TT therapist’s healing style. To clearly make the point, without compassion, whatever else one is doing with the techniques, it is not Therapeutic Touch. Compassion is a power with its own sphere of influence… Compassion is a highly human – and humane- function. “
With the energy flow rebalanced, the mind, body and spirit are free to address the issues, and the person can now tap into their own healing process to bring about wholeness of the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of their being. At the end of the session, the person usually feels relaxed and at peace. Pain, if it was an issue, is decreased or eliminated. There can also be new clarity of thought. The outcome is individual for each person.
